Nightlife has always been perceived to be a sanctuary for Queer individuals offering community, visibly, and joy in a world where those things aren't often afforded to them. But behind the music and lights lies a complex reality around substance use, safety, and survival. In this session, Swan Irvin (she/her) and Aidel Hawkins (she/they) will explore the intersection of harm reduction and nightlife, drawing from their experiences in being co-founders of Detroit nightlife collective Dolls Night Detroit. Attendees will be engaging in honest conversations about the risks that exist in these spaces, the power of peer-led conversations, and focusing on centering care without judgment. We invite participants to engage with the reimagining of nightlife as not only a place of celebration, but also as a place of community, resilience, and radical support.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to engage in harm reduction in an informal way, understand the importance of peer led conversations, and will leave with a destigmatized viewpoint on nightlife |
